Sr. Healthcare Infrastructure Design Engineer – Backup & Archive Consultant

Job Description

Location: Durham, NC

Duration: 5 Months, Contract to Hire

Job Purpose:

  • Responsible for the engineering of various and complex aspects of both physical and cloud hosted data center infrastructures which might include network, compute, storage, platform, middleware, database and telephony.
  • Independently analyze current and future requirements to effectively design data center infrastructure, networking and telephony systems while determining design feasibility from both technical and economic perspectives.
  • Develop and maintain technical standards, procedures and documentation in partnership with service partners as needed.
  • Compile and analyze operational data and directs proof of technology to establish standard for new designs or modifications to existing equipment, systems, or processes.
  • Independently partner and consult with varied technical, business, project and management staff to identify and plan, assess data center and cloud infrastructure designs, physical data center requirements and impacts and resolve design problems.

Major Job Functions/Components:

  • Independently plan and develop complex engineering designs in support of the implementation of network, compute, telephony, platform, middleware and database solutions.
  • Own and maintain technology currency and capacity planning in support of established SLAs.
  • Define hardware and software performance standards.
  • As infrastructure SME, provide expertise and knowledge in emerging technologies with strategic technology vendors
  • Participate in software and hardware licensing, financial and capacity activities that plan for the most efficient way to introduce and maintain datacenter technology within the environment.
  • Proactively provide information and ongoing consultation for IT and business areas as well as vendors directly or indirectly affected by the network or data center infrastructures.
  • Execute the detailed infrastructure design of larger and/or more complex internal projects collaborating with IT stakeholders, service owners and partners.
  • Provide operational readiness through the engineering, planning, coordination, and execution of performance and tuning analysis, systems support, incident and problem resolution, software installation, and upgrades.
  • Provide detailed guidance and consultation in solutioning production incidents when required.
  • Maintain appropriate standardized guidelines, work procedures and schedules for solution engineering within the data center environment to expedite workflow and ultimately improve efficiencies.
  • Build collaborative relationships with the broader architecture community to effectively maintain technical roadmaps and provide input into strategies and standards related to area of specialization.
  • Collaborate with vendors on infrastructure designs to ensure the final product is what was architected or designed.
  • Provide new technology overviews to IT and Enterprise leadership at varied leadership forums.
  • Provide direction and assistance to less experienced team members as needed.

Hiring Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of systems engineering experience is required.
  • In lieu of degree, 7 years of systems engineering experience.
  • Direct experience in one or more of the following technical specialties: network, compute,
  • storage, telephony, platform, middleware, and/or database.
  • Experience automating tasks associated with technical specialties.
  • Experience leading data center projects and initiatives.
  • Direct experience with one or more backup vendors such as Commvault.
  • Commvault experience is a must.
  • Detailed experience with backup, recovery and archival methodologies and strategies.
  • Experience with DR methodologies .
  • Hands on experience with on and off premise storage technology and proven experience in
  • designing solutions using one or more backup and archive solutions.
  • Experience automating tasks associated with technical specialties.
  • Experience successfully leading data center projects and initiatives.

Hiring Preferences:

  • Experience in multiple technical specialties preferred.

  • Software defined storage and backup
  • Backup Infrastructure oversight and management
  • Cloud and non-cloud based archiving platforms
  • Archiving and backup for compliance
  • Compute virtualization
  • Private/public cloud
  • Backup as a service
  • Experience engineering technologies to be delivered “as a service” and an understanding of
  • concepts of multi-tenancy.

Soft Skills/Abilities:

  • Strong technical aptitude in varied areas.
  • Must be able to work independently and be self sufficient in defining and realizing infrastructure
  • Team and customer service oriented, flexible and adaptable with proven ability to solve
  • problems in a collaborative and timely manner.
  • Solid background in data collection, analysis, and reporting.
  • Proven debugging skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities with strong organization and planning skillset.
  • Knowledge of Systems Development Life Cycle Methodologies and process flows.
  • Ability to correlate technical actions to business impact
  • Flexible and adaptable with focus on effectively managing change.

Professional Certification:

  • Relevant technical certification preferred.
